St Peregrine
The patron saint of cancer patients, in his black habit, with the sore on his leg.
About this statue
St Peregrine Laziosi was a Servite friar from Forlì in Italy, who died in 1345. He is the patron saint of people with cancer and other serious illness, and his feast falls on 4 May.
A growth on his leg was to be cut off, and the night before, he is said to have prayed before a crucifix and woken healed. The statue shows him in the black Servite habit, a crucifix in one hand and the other drawing back his robe to show the wound. This statue was made for the Fatima Retreat House in Mangalore.
