St Martin de Porres and the Divine Babe
A one-off group made for St Martin de Porres Church, Belvai: the saint at prayer, the Divine Babe above him among the clouds.
About this statue
St Martin de Porres Church in Belvai commissioned this statue from Simon Art Co. It is a one-off, conceived and made for that church and for no other: St Martin kneeling in prayer, his eyes raised to the Divine Babe, who looks out from a golden halo among the clouds, with angels at his side.
St Martin de Porres was a Dominican lay brother in Lima, Peru, who died in 1639. He is remembered for his care of the sick and the poor, and his feast falls on 3 November.
