St Alphonsa
The first woman of Indian origin to be declared a saint, with her crucifix and Bible.
About this statue
St Alphonsa was born in Kerala in 1910 and joined the Franciscan Clarist Congregation. She lived through years of illness and suffering with great patience, and died at Bharananganam in 1946. In 2008 she became the first woman of Indian origin to be declared a saint. Her feast falls on 28 July.
She wears the brown Franciscan Clarist habit with a white veil and the rope cord, a halo behind her head. We make her holding a crucifix and Bible, or with a lily or a rosary, and on a wooden or marble base.
She is made for parishes, convents, schools and hospitals, and for homes of families who pray to her.
